The bill has passed both chambers and awaits the President's signature. We have found no report that it has been signed. Check congress.gov for the official status.
Timeline

| April 2026 | The House passes H.R. 227 by a vote of 350 to 5. |
| September 30, 2026 | The Senate passes H.R. 227 by unanimous consent. Because it passed without amendment, no further House vote is needed. |
| October 1, 2026 | Senators Britt and Hassan announce passage. |
| Next | Enrollment and presentment to the President. He has ten days, not counting Sundays, to sign or veto. If he does nothing while Congress is in session, it becomes law. |
| Within 90 days of enactment | IRS and SSA outreach plan due, under the bill. |
| To be announced | IRS form and procedures for revoking the exemption. |
| January 1, 2029 | The window opens: first eligible tax year. |
| Generally April 15, 2031 | Application due for the second year, 2030, with extensions available. Confirm against IRS instructions. |
